My Background
Medical Practice
Dr Alexander is an experienced obstetrician, gynaecologist and urogynaecologist (pelvic floor specialist) that offers private urogynaecology and gynaecology services. He has received extensive training beyond the standard obstetrics and gynaecology pathway and is well-placed to look after your concerns. Dr James works as a staff specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital, and as a visiting medical officer at North Shore Private Hospital.
Dr Alexander completed standard obstetrics and gynaecology training at The Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick before taking up a position as the gynaecological oncology fellow at the same hospital to develop advanced surgical skills including advanced keyhole surgery. He then embarked on a three-year fellowship in Victoria where he trained under the best urogynaecologists in Australia, earning the urogynaecologist sub-specialty qualification. He has now returned to Sydney to provide advanced services for prolapse and urinary incontinence.
Dr Alexander's main interests are providing non-surgical and surgical options for preventing and treating pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence. He also has a strong interest in looking after women with previous traumatic births during pregnancy and post-partum.
Dr Alexander spent several months volunteering to run a maternity and gynaecology service in Zambia. During this time he was responsible for over 600 births and performed many surgeries that the facilities could support. At 5pm daily, he joined the locals for a football game and was humbled by the athleticism surrounding him! He continues to help the local community by financially supporting the education of a family he got to know and a nursing student at the local university.
Dr Alexander is also the author of many research papers with more on the way. He is a co-author of a gynaecology textbook to be published in the near future. He has presented his research and given talks on an international stage.
As as staff specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital, he is heavily involved in public health, the teaching of medical students and junior doctors, and providing excellent obstetric, gynaecological and urogynaecological care to women on the North Shore.
Dr Alexander is married to Kayla and together have three wonderful young boys who keep their parents busy! He loves sport, is a member of the local church and loves being involved in the local community.
